I celebrated my tenth year as a staff generalist at Passageway in April, 2009, having started in April,
1999. I am currently in charge of the Kitchen and several years ago worked in the employment area and the clerical unit. Like
all staff, I regularly help out in the kitchen and other areas of the club.
I am a Licensed Independent Social Worker, and received my Master’s Degree in Social Work from the
University of Iowa and a B.A. in Psychology from Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry, New York. I have worked for twenty-eight years
with people who have mental illness.
Before coming to the clubhouse, I worked for 15 years at a residential treatment facility and for four years
at the State of Iowa’s Division of Vocational Rehabilitation. For all of my professional life, I have been a strong
supporter of the importance of supportive community and the value of work.
When not at Passageway, I love to play my acoustic guitar and sing, especially Irish folk songs. I live
in a cozy brick house with my angelic wife, Anne, my rollicking, red-haired 6 ½ year-old-son Sean, and four attractive
turtles.
